JEHOVAH-MKADDESH
INTRO
1. Read Leviticus 20:7,8...
a) This is one of the compound names of God...
"...I am the LORD which sanctify you."
b) Remember that God is revealing Himself to His people at the point of their need.
2. Leviticus is the book of life, a book explaining the walk and worship of a people
already redeemed.
3. This name is used in three chapters, a total of seven times:
(mark all 7 in your Bible)a) Cha. 20:8
b) Cha. 21:8, 15, 23
c) Cha. 22: 9, 16, 32
4. The first mention of Gods sanctifying power is in Genesis 2:3....this is where God
declares the 7th day as sacred.
*******
I. "SANCTIFY:" ITS SPECIAL USE AND DEFINITION
A. Usage:
1. "Sanctify" appears 700 times in the Bible.
2. There is NO more important word in the Old Testament, because if God
did not sanctify you, then you are NO DIFFERENT than anyone else.
B. Definition:
1. Leviticus 20:26 is a definition of this word "sanctify."
"And ye shall be holy unto me:
for I the LORD am holy,
and have severed [separated] you from other people,
that ye should be mine."
2. Sanctify means to SEVER or to SEPARATE:
3. Some say to set apart from SIN and unto GOD, and this is true, but the
emphasis is upon the word separation.
C. Three Examples of Things Being Set Apart:
1. TIME AND SEASONS
a) Read Genesis 2:3.
b) The 7th day is the first day God sanctifies.
c) Read Leviticus 23:1-5.
d) God is making certain days holy.
2. PLACES AND THINGS
a) Read Joshua 6:19.
"But all the silver, and gold,
and vessels of brass and iron,
are consecrated unto the LORD:
they shall come into the treasury of the LORD."
b) Read Leviticus 27:14.
3. PEOPLE
a) Read Leviticus 20:26.
b) Read Jeremiah 1:5....
"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee;
and before thou camest forth out of the womb
I SANCTIFIED thee,
and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."

II. JEHOVAH-MKADDESH HIMSELF IS SANCTIFIED
A. Note:
1. Jehovah is apart from and holy above all else in the universe.
a) Read Deuteronomy 4:35...
"Unto thee it was shewed,
that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God;
there is none else beside him."
b) Read I Samuel 2:2...
"There is none holy as the LORD:
for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God."
c) Can also see Isaiah 44:6 and 45:21.
2. Gods most fundamental attribute is His holiness.
a) Read Isaiah 6:3...
"And one cried unto another, and said,
Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts:
the whole earth is full of his glory."
3. Read this quote regarding HOLINESS....
It is the balance...of all the attributes of Deity. Power without holiness would degenerate into cruelty; omniscience without holiness would become craft; justice without holiness would degenerate into revenge; and goodness without holiness would be passionate and intemperate fondness doing mischief rather than accomplishing good.
4. The Spirit of God is called the
HOLY Spirit.5. God is so holy and set apart that He cannot be in the presence of sinners.
a) Read Habakkuk 1:13...
"Thou art of purer eyes to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity...."

III. TEN WAYS JEHOVAH MKADDESH APPLIES TO THE
LIFE OF THE BELIEVER:
#1. Gods desire is to restore the believer who has been ruined by sin to a position of holiness.
a) Read Ephesians 4:24.
"And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and TRUE holiness."
b) There are a lot of false "Holy" life-styles in the world.
#2. A holy God demands holiness in His people, for people become like the gods that they serve.
a) Read Lev. 19:2...
"Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel,
and say unto them, Ye shall be holy:
for I the Lord your God am holy."
b) Read I Peter 1:15,16...
"But as he which hath called you is holy,
so be ye holy in all manner of conversation
[lifestyle];because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."
#3. God demands our separation from fellowship with those who would corrupt us.
a) Read II Cor. 6:17...
"Wherefore come out from among them,
and be ye separate [sanctified], saith the Lord,
and touch not the unclean thing: and I will receive you."
b) The MOST corrupting influence in the life of a believer, and esp. a
teenager, is his friends.
#4. To be sanctified unto Jehovah means participation in the nature of and character and works of Jehovah. God wants us to practice holiness.
a) Read Leviticus 20:7...
"Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy:
for I am the LORD your God."
b) Notice it says, "Sanctify YOURSELVES."
c) No one can make your lifestyle holy, except you!
d) Application: Wouldnt it be real easy to just stay home on Wednesday nights?
Think about it. Youve worked hard all week. You and your
family deserve some time together. Wouldnt a nice backyard
barbecue be a good family activity? But most of us want to be at
church when the doors are open to worship God. And as we
drive off to come to church the neighbors must think, "There
go those religious nuts...even on Wednesday night; dont they
ever get enough?"
e) Who makes you go to church? Who makes you do the right thing?
YOU DO.....NOBODY ELSE DOES!
#5. Jehovah-Jesus is our holy, spotless example.
a) Read Hebrews 4:15...
"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched
with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are,
yet without sin."
b) Read Hebrews 7:26...
"For such an high priest became us,
who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners,
and made higher than the heavens;"
#6. Believers have been elected unto holiness, or separateness.
a) Read Ephesians 1:4,5...
"According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Having predestinated us unto the adoption
of children by Jesus Christ to himself,
according to the good pleasure of his will..."
b) This does not mean some are chosen to go to heaven and some are
chosen to go to hell.
c) We were chosen to be HOLY.
d) Read Romans 8:29...
"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate
to be conformed to the image of his Son,
that he might be the firstborn among many brethren."
#7. We are sanctified on the basis of our redemption in Christ.
a) Read II Timothy 1:9...
"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling,
not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began..."
b) Read Hebrews 10:10...
"By the which will we are sanctified
through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."
c) This shows us how we became sanctified from the world...through Jesus.
#8. Believers are sanctified by the Word of His truth.
a) Read John 17:17-19.
b) What is going to set me apart from the world?
Only my belief in the Bible.
Everything we are and belief is based upon the Word.
#9. Jehovah chastens us so that we might be sanctified unto His holiness.
a) Read Hebrews 12:10-14.
b) The purpose of chastening is to make us holy like He is holy.
#10. It is the churchs glorious destiny to be presented holy to the Lord.
a) Read Ephesians 5:26,27.
b) Read I Thessalonians 5:23...
"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly;
and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body
be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
*******
CONCLUSION:
1. God IS trying to make us holy ...... like He is holy.
2. But you have to submit to Him.
3. This takes work on your part.
