I. MOSES’ ROD: SYMBOL OF THE BANNER OF GOD, BRINGS VICTORY

a) Stood for His CAUSE.

b) Stood for His BATTLE/POWER.

.......it was a pledge of God’s presence.

rod, Israel began to lose.

II. THE APPLICATION TO BELIEVERS TODAY

A. The Battle Symbolizes The Spiritual Warfare of The Christian

1. Exodus 17:9 says...

"And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men,

and go out, fight with Amalek:

to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill

with the rod of God in mine hand."

2. It is a battle WITHIN.

a) Galations 5:17 says...

"For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit,

and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."

3. It is a battle with UNSEEN FORCES OF EVIL.

a) Ephesians 6:12 says...

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world,

against spiritual wickedness in high places."

4. It is a battle with THE WORLD.

a) I John 2:15,16 says...

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.

If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh,

and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,

is not of the Father, but is of the world."

B. Every Christian Who Is Spiritually Mature Is To Be Actively And Willingly

Engaged In Spiritual Warfare. (Exodus 17:10)

1. Every church member should have a job in the church; something that

promotes the SPIRITUAL Kingdom of God.

2. We are NOT saved by works, but WE ARE SAVED TO WORK.

*Read Ephesians 2:8-10.

3. We are admonished to fight.

a) The Christian life is a FIGHT.

b) We must go into battle with Jehovah-nissi.

*II Timothy 4:7.... "I have fought a good fight..."

*Jude 3.... "...ye should earnestly contend for the faith..."

*Ephesians 6:11-17.... "...redeeming the time,, because

the days are evil."

C. The Very Name Jehovah-nissi Teaches us That We Cannot Win In Spiritual

Warfare In Our Own Strength.

1. Only when the rod was held up (representing the presence of God) could

the battle be won. (Ex. 17:11)

2. Read II Chronicles 20:15....

"And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah,

and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat,

thus saith the LORD unto you,

Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude;

for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

3. Read Zechariah 4:6....

"...he answered...saying,

"This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel saying,

Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts."

4. Read Psalm 118:6....

"The Lord is on my side; I will not fear:

what can man do unto me?"

5. Read Romans 8:31,37....

"What shall we then say to these things?

If God be for us, who can be against us?

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors

through him that loved us."

D. The Rod (the banner) Was A Symbol of Jesus Christ Himself and His Cross.

1. The cross of Christ is the banner of God’s redemption power. (Jn. 3:14)

2. Jesus is Jehovah-Jesus, the rod of Jesse. (Isaiah 11:1)

JESUS IS OUR JEHOVAH-NISSI.

OUR GREAT BANNER.

THE CROSS IS OUR BANNER.

Whose CAUSE are you holding up each day???
